South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun says he plans to quit the political party he formed just four years ago. Mr. Roh told Uri Party officials of his plans during a dinner Thursday.
He said although he is leaving, he wants them to continue to work for the party's success.
His decision is the latest bid by the ruling party to shake up South Korea's politics before the December presidential election and bolster lagging public support. Earlier this month, 23 lawmakers quit the Uri Party to form a new political group.

Over the next few days, Mr. Roh is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet. Public approval ratings for Mr. Roh and his Uri Party have plummeted over the past year.
